So You Want to Know How to Prevent White Collar Crime

Anyone interested in understanding white collar crime and how to prevent it should read an interview in the CPA Journal entitled "The Battle Against Fraud: Seeking the Accounting Profession's Support" conducted by Mary-Jo Kranacher of Joseph T. Wells (founder and chairman of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners) and published in September 2006. Mr. Wells a CPA, former FBI Special Agent, and Certified Fraud Examiner said:
"With respect to the CPA’s responsibilities to detect fraud, in my opinion current audit standards are fundamentally and fatally flawed; we should shift our emphasis to preventing fraud in the first place."

Mr. Wells won the Lawler Award for best article of the year for his piece "So That's Why They Call It a Pyramid Scheme" in the Journal of Accounting in October 2006. Link here for article.
